Gf! I'll post the vid here as soon as I'm done playing with editing and making it look half as cool as Bronson's
I was really hoping the guy combat probing us near the middle would show up in something decent and we could collect another KM. That would have made things interesting. The randomly decloaking Astero was disappointing :P
My only regret is the dolls didn't drop. |

Here's the vid of Lan and I in Uplingur.
The quality and editing is extremely meh. I spent very little time editing it and messed some stuff up, but its just a piece of footage, anyway.

No worries Valkin, I've been having a busier schedule than usual as well.
I've got ships all ready to go, so next time I see you online we can meet and appease this bloodthirsty crowd. |

I really like the bans idea because it would make theorycrafting more dynamic.
I cant fly T2 BCs either, but restricting them completely seems like overkill. As has been mentioned, its possible to frame a T1 BC that will beat a sleipnir or Astarte (it takes some l33t piloting too). The person who can fly T2 BCs has the disadvantage that everyone will be expecting him to bring a T2 BC and will fit their ships accordingly.
On another note, T3s are built for extreme resilience against gangs and they are great at fighting above their class. If T3s were in the cruiser bracket I think it would be possible to win with non-t3s provided you had a good amount of neuts/kiting superiority. Imo, it would turn into situation like w-space, where practically everyone has to bring neuts. (which may not be a bad thing)
Maybe adding T3Cs to other class brackets would be a solution? stat wise they are closer to T2BCs and BS than they are to cruisers. Also, in the battleship bracket they would be facing enough dps/neuts that their extreme tanks would be much more breakable.
Just my two cents, thinking of a way to incorporate them without breaking the current balance. |

That was a pretty good fight indeed! Brutix navy wasn't something I expected, and I kinda panicked when the neut hit. Thinking it was a race against time before you capped me out and my guns stopped, I overheated to my doom. :P
Best of luck to you in the BS bracket! ;D |

God... I thought for certain that you had him. If you hadnt burnt out... and maybe a bit more range control... that one was CLOSE.
Yeah, I should have taken the time to properly try to exploit the Ferox's optimal bonus. My main worry at the start was his active tank. I was worried he was dual-rep, which would be a perfect counter to me. The only way I could manage range was to use the MJD, and my projection at 105 km is only 260 dps, which probably would not have cracked his active tank.
As he dropped into structure just outside of scram range I got greedy. :/
I was thinking about my midslots too much, and I think I did an okay job there, but forgetting the most important part.
Next time I just need to stick to my guns. :D

Really nice fights and fits guys, this is some quality content. I'm getting really nervous now :)
On the note of implants, I've not used any full sets either (in my fight with Lan I was trying to get a snake set but turned out to be too poor to afford them all :D)
I think the current Thunderdome rules allow for good competition without draining people's wallets (unless they want to spend lots of isk).
I could bring all T1 ships to thunderdome and still have a good chance of winning if I did my theorycrafting correctly. Even if I didn't win, I would still get precious pvp experience and some good fights.
Thunderdome is like a good road trip where most of the fun is not arriving at your destination, but seeing the sights and doing cool stuff along the way.

Eh, I feel really bad to have held up our thunderdome at this critical point. When I first signed up I had plenty of spare time, but things have changed a bit since then.
I'm back on track, so we can get this done today or tomorrow (or Friday).
See you on the battlefield Valkin :D |

Killboard
This was a fight between two of the tankiest BCs of all time. It lasted both longer and shorter than I thought it would. I'll upload the video here in a few hours from now.
I used to believe the drake was a lie, but maybe it had its moment of truth today. |

Next Thursday would be ideal, if its not too long. I'll also make the necessary preparations so there will be no waiting on me again after that.
Maybe we should set the finish date of this thunderdome to next weekend, if that's okay with everyone.
(alternatively, if people have their hearts set on thunderdome ending this weekend, i'll resign so that's possible.) |

Gf indeed! I'll post the vid here as soon as I finish processing it. Kill I was really worried about this fight, since the Raven has many predators. It has a very solid tank when not under neut pressure though.
I had wanted to bring a scorpion too, but got dissuaded by its dps. Most active tanked Battleships I've seen (with boosters/shiny mods) take at least 1k dps to break, so I found myself forced into a raven. Props to Leto for coming up with the depot idea though. When I saw it appear I was confused, but after I was permajammed I understood why |

Is there a way to dislike posts? If there was I really would dislike this rookie ship idea.
Not everyone has a 300mil edition rookie ship they've been waiting to use, and from the crafting I've done so far it seems like the limited edition rookie ships are incredible improvements over the T1s. They are so much better in every respect. (I'm willing to retract this statement if someone wants to step up and prove me wrong)
Of course its possible to lose in one, but clearly the advantage goes to the person(s) who are willing to shell out 300mil on a rookie ship in this bracket. A quick comparison between the taipan vs the ibis, or the violator vs the velator, clearly shows the advantage the limited edition has over the T1. 50% more primary slots, plus massive utility and damage bonuses make faction rookie ships clearly the way to go. Since frigate duels like these end rather fast(usually), the person with 50% more dps/tank from their faction rookie ship is very likely to win unless mistakes are made.
I don't mean to complain because I normally reject the notion that pvp (especially this thunderdome) is pay to win. Eve is a marvelously balanced game and its awesome to see cheap ships beat shinier ones. I don't think that balance exists, or was intended to exist with the special edition ships. I would have mentioned this earlier, but I wasn't considering this bracket since I assumed I would be knocked out long ago.
Anyway, felt I would throw out these thoughts before the match to prevent the possible "hes butthurt he lost". In the name of providing content I'll gladly continue, just wanting to know if anyone else had considered these implications of a rookie ship duel.
tl;dr grr I would prefer to spend 300mil on a more practical endeavor. |

Leto Thule wrote:Damnskippy wrote:Wait what theshit? faction rookie ships? Is that really a thing? I've got to log in and see. What are they called?
Did I just get punk'd?
Edit: is It the Hematos? Where did that ship come from? I've never heard of it until today. Just like everything else in the game, the guristas one is the best. It's called the taipan, and you can get it up to around 150 dps with a decent tank and the ability to fit damps or t/d.
If that wasn't enough, it gets very large missile and drone speed bonuses. Its basically one half of a worm, which practically makes it comparable to most normal frigates.
Some of the others look kinda cool, but like Leto said, if its not gurrristas it has a weakness.
I think the faction rookie ships are given away each fanfest as prizes for mini-tournaments. |

Bronson Hughes wrote:I'd like to officially withdraw from the bracket. It's been held up long enough, my current situation is prohibitively busy, and I've had a good run as champ. Time to pass the belt along. Immortalist and Lodestone: make me proud. Either one of you would make a great champ.
o7 You made a really good run Bronson, was looking forward to this rematch, but we can always have it some time later this season. Fly safe and gl with getting the RL hassles sorted out, I know the feeling.
Immortalist, I should be ready to fight anytime on or after Thursday evening. If that works for you mail me in-game.

This is it ladies. The Thunderdome is finally over!
Victory goes to the immortal one. The best of 3 went close, I won the first fight and then immortalist won the second. Killmails: 1st fight 2nd fight
The video and commentary i'll post here shortly. im going back to bed (fights lasted from 5-6am my time)
Outstanding piloting on his part. I need to practice frigates more (or train into a worm) |

lmmortalist wrote:A short analysis of the fights: the 1st one was pretty much decided when we both undocked our ships. Once I zoomed in on Lodestone's hawk and saw the light missile launchers I realized the only thing I could do was try to catch him and get up close. Because of the tanking capabilities of the hawk, however, there really wasn't a chance of winning to begin with.
After the loss I was pretty much afraid of him bringing the hawk again and pondered if I should take another ship or alter my worm fit. In the end the only thing I changed was a sensor booster to a sensor dampener. My strategy + fit were completely focused on keeping my drones alive long enough for him to run out of cap boosters. Now that I think of it I still can't figure out a better ship for the task (barring another hawk with more tank than his but that would've been kinda gay).
Especially with the daredevil loss these fights ended up costing me quite a nice pile of isk. Ironic, considering my original strategy was to bring the worm to the first fight but I decided otherwise at the last minute because I wanted to try something different.
It would have been more interesting to see how things went had you started with the worm. My first hawk was much better tanked and had way more sustainable cap. (it did cost quite a bit more) I likely still would have lost, but I think I would have had a better chance anyway.
I realized my error at the very end of the second fight. I should have exploited my web. Near the beginning had I tried to catch you instead of running away I might have been able to facetank your drones to break through your buffer using my heat and both boosters at once. The way I played that last match, you had total control of the fight the whole time due to your speed.
I admire your decision to bring something interesting for the first fight. Winning with style or an unusual ship is awesome. I spent the better part of 2 weeks trying to come up with something that could beat a worm and garmur that wasn't a worm/garmur. (It shows I have very little experience with frigate fights and the weaknesses of those ships) The best I could do was that first hawk, which had 321 dps tank heated (BluePill/MGcrystals) and very solid range.
Anyway, The vid is Here for all those interested. This was a good Thunderdome, and very educational. o7 |

Im kinda tied between two as well. Bronson vs me (where I lost the ferox). Mistakes were made, but it was a very close fight.
I like to watch fights where it could have gone either way with decisions mid-match playing a huge part, and isn't one person simply taking control and winning by attrition. (although i'll admit often more skill is involved in the latter).
Also, I enjoyed Omar vs Tengu, mostly because I love the ashimmu and watching it win was awesome.
Officially, i'll probably go for Bronson vs Lode in the Battlecrusier bracket. |
